A Brief Hiatus... Again!

I've disappeared on you all again! Sorry bout that, but I am working on something outrageously cool.

Not giving anything away, but I have a feeling that Lucy from 80steenmovies.com knows what I am talking about!

More info as it becomes available... which is hopefully very soon!

I Told You I Had Another Press Kit Planned! Teen Witch!

I won the Teen Witch Press Kit on eBay about a fortnight ago, and here it is in all it's gloriously cheesy goodness! I was going to actually construct a page for my press kits and stills but there's no point doing that as changes are taking place! But more on that later.

Here's my Teen Witch Press Kit!

Teen Witch Teen Witch
Teen Witch Teen Witch
Teen Witch

Teen Witch

Teen Witch Teen Witch

Would you believe I also have a Spanish Poster for this movie? My Chilean sister in law translated it for me. Something about love and the stars... I have no idea.

Unfortunately I had to watermark these pics, mainly to prevent unscrupulous eBay sellers from selling counterfeit press stills. I bought some fake Nightmare on Elm Street ones, not cool. :(

But there you have it, one completely legit, totally rad Teen Witch Press Kit. I have heaps of other 80's movie press kits - now I just have to get around to the task of scanning them.

I wonder if any of my other press kits will "Top That"?

(ohhh my sides! So funny!)

Review - Miracle Beach (1992)

Miracle Beach

Another day, another beach based T&A flick with another main character named Scotty. Unlike Hardbodies though, Miracle Beach made it's debut in 1992. But much like Hardbodies, Miracle Beach has strong ties to Playboy TV, being that this was one of only two films ever directed by Skott Snider that wasn't for Playboy. I guess the guy really knew how to angle a boob shot or something. Ami Dolenz is in this movie being her usual super cute self, and in expected good girl fashion, she does keep her clothes on, although she does look smashing in a bikini. She's the bikini genie! Ha! So funny. What's not funny is a film exists with that name. Hrm. I need to find it.

Moving on! Let's get this movie started! Can you believe that I'm two paragraphs in and I have yet to mention that Scotty McKay is played by Mr Awesome himself, Dean Cameron? There were actually a surprising number of recognisable people on the cast (well, recognisable by me anyway). Not only was Ami Dolenz in this movie (have I mentioned how cute she is?) but also Dean Cain, Pat Morita, Alexis Arquette, Vincent Schiavelli and the fat kid from National Lampoon's Senior Trip! Right on!

So Scotty McKay is at work ogling the Tahiti Cooler girl on TV (he has a job unlike our previous Scotty) when he decides to take a break and duck home to see how his sick girlfriend is doing. He can't find his boss Chuck, so he asks a co-worker to cover for him and even picks her up a bunch of flowers on the way home. When he actually gets home, he finds out that not only is his girlfriend Cindy not sick at all, but he can also stop looking for his boss! Chuck fires Scotty on the spot and leaves with Cindy in tow. A few seconds later, Scotty is greeted by his landlord with an eviction notice. He's now unemployed and homeless. Scratch that part earlier where I said this movie was different to Hardbodies.

Old Press Stills: It's A Sickness I Tell Ya!

I've managed to amass quite the collection of old 8 x 10 press still from various 80's films and I have been doing a little eBay shopping recently, picking up some more.

I'm quite excited about my new aquisitions, and I can't wait until they arrive so that I can add them to my collection!

Usually I tend to gravitate towards full press kits, but sometimes the best you can find for a movie is one or two 8 x 10's so I'm willing to take that!

My love for the movie Modern Girls is no secret! The full set of Press Stills is available for viewing at the fabulous Modern Girls Movie site, but I have been scouring eBay for months now unable to locate even one of them. Thankfully, that changed this week as I was able to pick up the German Film Card, and one of the 8 x 10's with the most gorgeous Clayton Rohner. It's a start!

Modern Girls German Film Card Modern Girls Press Still

Also en route to me as we speak, yet another of those elusive Better off Dead stills! I believe I have a couple of them already, but I have been unable to locate anything close to a full set. The full press kit usually goes for a pricey sum when it actually appears on the 'Bay, but this still is one step closer for me! And I also LOVE posed cast shots.

Better Off Dead Press Still Bill & Ted TV Press Still

Also above is a super rare promo still for Fox's ill fated Bill & Ted live action TV series that I mentioned in this post. As much as I was actually looking for Bill & Ted movie stills (no dice), I was pleasantly surprised to find this one and snapped it straight up. :)) I don't think anyone else besides me cares about that show anyway!

Speaking of posed cast shots, what a find! My jaw dropped when I found the auction, and it dropped even further when I discovered the $4.95 Buy It Now price tag. Needless to say, no thought or hesitation necessary.

The Lost Boys Press Still

And finally, I snagged this awesome Summer School press still. No Dean Cameron, but it will do!

Summer School Press Still

I have more Press Kit stuff planned for later in the week, so stay tuned if you like that kind of thing! :>>

Review - Hardbodies (1984)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YysBPrJGzI

My younger brother (who is just as movie mad as I am, although his choices are seemingly of better quality), picked this up for me with my birthday in a collection pack with Hardbodies 2. I actually watched both movies back to back, and if I had to say that one of them was "better" (and I do use that term quite loosely) I would say that the first one definitely outshines the second. Considering that we are talking mid 80's T&A flicks here, that must mean that Hardbodies 2 was pretty damn crap. And it was. But I'll get to that later.

The first ten to fifteen minutes of Hardbodies is a montage of girls on the beach. Stretching, swimming, oiling up and losing their bikini tops in splash fights with their equally endowed friends. It serves to set the scene that California is the place to be if you're looking for hot girls with loose morals. Moving on, we meet out main man Scotty Palmer. Looks like he's been getting busy with his girlfriend Kristi (and thus we are introduced to the second of many pairs of breasts that will be viewable throughout the film. I'm talkin a lotta boobage in 90 mins). As Scotty rolls out of bed (my, he certainly was naked under there), we get a better view of his disaster area of an apartment. Clothes strewn about, unwashed dishes... Scotty is the stereotypical lovable slacker. Kristi laughs off his disgustingness, but not before Scotty exits his apartment to discover that not everyone loves a slacker - his landlord has hit him with an eviction notice. He finds his friend Rag down at the beach (Courtney Gains!) and before long Kristi and her friend Kimberly arrive too. That's when the token fat slob and his gang rock up and terrorize the ladies, and their dog steals Kimberly's bikini top. (Yes, that did happen). Scotty tricks them into knocking over the bikes of local biker gang, The Gonads, and they hightail it out of there. But maybe they will pop up again later in the film...

This is when our three rich, middle aged businessmen, Hunter, Ashby & Rounder appear on the scene. All are single or divorced and have come out to LA for a bit of R&R... and also a bit of T&A. All three make a deal that this place will be their little secret - no bringing anyone out that has anything to do with work. They are here to relax and that's all. Scotty notices them move in and asks them if he can help them with anything and offers to detail their cars. Being the lovable scammer that he is, he can't help but convince two passing girls that the mercedes he is polishing belongs to him. While the older guys all strike out down on the beach with their outdated lines, Scotty has taken the Mercedes for a spin with two bikini babes in tow with seemingly effortless ease. Rather than being mad at Scotty when he returns with the car, the guys ask him how he was able to pick up the girls so easily. Scotty gives them a few pointers about "dialoguing Hardbodies", and Hunter offers to pay him to be their "coach". After a night sleeping on the beach now that he has been kicked out of his apartment, Scotty decides that he needs the money and takes them up on their offer.

You May Have Noticed That I Have Moved House

Well, not me, but Stinkomovies.Org has moved to something a little bit more personalised. You should now be looking at ThatBMovieChick.com! It's been a long time since my last blog entry in early December, and that time has been spent tweaking everything and getting artwork done so that the move would be as painless as possible.

Hopefully now all of my links and redirects are working and we can resume with the reviews. It's not going to be hard to beat last years effort - I can't believe that I only wrote 5 reviews in the whole year! Not good guys, not good!

But that was then and this is now! I have a lot planned for the coming months so I hope you all stick with me and continue to enjoy with me one of my favourite things in the whole world. Bad movies!

Here's to a productive 2010!

Now I don't give a rats about Twilight...

But this is ridiculous

From CNN.com

A birthday celebration that culminated in a trip to catch the blockbuster movie "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" could land 22-year-old Samantha Tumpach in prison for three years.

The Chicago, Illinois-area woman captured three minutes of the film on her videocamera while taping part of her sister's surprise party at a Muvico theater in Rosemont.

Not only is that completely mental (and not in an awesome Ed Grimley kinda way I must say...), but this quote had me literally scoffing in disbelief.

Piracy has been an ongoing issue for the motion picture industry. The Motion Picture Association of America estimates that illegal piracy costs its business billions of dollars every year. Muvico said the group believes that hidden cameras in theaters are the direct source of more than 90 percent of all pirated movies.

What? are they seriously that stupid? 90% of all pirated movies are cams?

GTFO.

Seriously, how can anyone trust ANY figures that the MPAA come up with regarding internet film piracy if this is the kind of bullshit they are spreading around. I've covered this topic a thousand times and I probably will a thousand more. In this day and age I don't understand why we are still expected to buy something blindly.

You don't buy clothes without trying them on. No one asks you to buy a track from itunes if you haven't already heard it on the radio. Why do we have to buy DVD's without having seen the film? Not all of us are crazy downloading fiends who sit in the dark amassing TB's worth of illegal content, most of us just want to be better informed consumers. If I like a movie, regardless of whether I downloaded it or not, I will buy it. If a movie is terrible, why does the studio reserve the right to trick me into buying it with a flashy trailer and a cool looking cover?

But man, 3 years jail for 3 minutes of a Twilight movie? Recorded during a birthday party? Where does the power of the MPAA end exactly? And shame on the theatre staff for calling the authorities. Surely an appropriate judgement call could have been made in this instance.

I really hope this girl gets let off, and perhaps even compensated for her ordeal (and also denounces all that is Twilight... you know... guilty by association and all. She'll thank me later).

Review: Illegally Yours (1988)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LmSZI1b1D8
Youtube trailer via 80's Teen Movies.Com

I can't remember how long ago I bought this DVD, but I know it was a while. It was probably cheap, and probably from some big sale or a market stall. Recently, I watched The Stand, and fell head over heels in love with Rob Lowe (how could anyone NOT love Nick Andros?). Then I remembered that I had bought this movie and not watched it. So on it went for a perve... ahem... I mean on it went for an engrossing movie watching experience. Okay, so I'm lying through my teeth. This movie was neither engrossing nor an experience, well at least not a notable one. But you know what? Rob Lowe was damn fine in the 80's. I don't think even a viewing of Wayne's World can thwart the crush this time.

*Note: Speaking of Wayne's World, as you would all be well aware, in that film Rob Lowe plays the obnoxious, smarmy Benjamin. The anti-Wayne. What you may not realise is the the object of Rob Lowe's character Richard Dice's affections in Illegally Yours, Molly, is none other than Colleen Camp. Colleen played Noah Vanderhoff's somewhat ditzy wife in Wayne's World. How bout that?

Illegally Yours is a little confusing to begin with. Our main character, Richard Dice (Lowe) narrates the goings on from the very beginning surrounding the events leading to a young woman named Molly being put on trial for attempted murder. Unfortunately for Molly, she is a victim of circumstance. She winds up in the wrong place at the wrong time - namely her ex boyfriend's Donald's house only minutes after his new girlfriend, Ruth, has committed a murder. Donald, Ruth and the murder victim all worked for an eccentric shipping magnate by the name of Hal Keeler, whose young daughter Suzanne also witnessed the murder while peeking through a window with her strange friend Sharon. The murder victim was no innocent party though, he had been blackmailing everyone at the scene (including Keeler's daughter) for undisclosed reasons and as a result was being tailed by two dodgy hitmen who were also there to kill him. The murder victim had taped the conversation leading up to his death, and while it had been discovered by the Ruth and Donald, Ruth had dumped it with a pile of tapes belonging to Molly while they dispose of the body. Molly arrives and sweeps through the house wanting to collect the last of her things, taking the incriminating cassette with her. Ruth panics and tries to get the tape back, but Molly insists that all the tapes are hers and storms out the door. Knowing what she has, Ruth tries to hit Molly with her car. Molly pulls a gun on Ruth in self defense and fires, but winds up wounding a passing mailman.

Summer School - Mind Over Matter

The most excellent Lucy from 80steenmovies.com brought this video to my attention - I have never seen it before, and didn't even know it existed! It's an instant youtube fave for me and I just had to share it.

How outrageously cute was EG Daily back then? Summer School was showing on one of our cable movie channels a month or so ago and my boyfriend flicked over just as they were taking the exam. I was in the study and it took me all of five seconds to hear this song, realise what movie he was watching and run madly into the lounge room like a lunatic screaming that it was Summer School.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwdipJqHrIs

I love music clips that incorporate the stars from the movie, usually singing and dancing along. Another of my more tragic faves would be Leo Swift's "She's Gonna Get It" from the closing credits of Zapped Again.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOVxSI1dLy8

*sigh* They just don't make comedies like they used to.

My Unhealthy Obsession with Ill Fated Bad 90's Sitcoms

I'm going to start off by saying "Hulu, I hate you."

I only hate Hulu because I'm not American, and its the only thing standing between me and the viewing of They Came From Outer Space in its entirety.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRwcQPNwCX0

This is the ONLY video I can find online of this show. Even ioffer.com, the last bastion of all that is bootleg isn't paying out. Yes, yes, I am well aware that it's insane for me to be so rabidly pursuing what appears to be a mediocre show that only ran for one season, but that's not the point. You see, I love both Dean Cameron and Stuart Fratkin. And seriously how can this show not be awesome?

Stuart Fratkin and Dean Cameron as Bo & Abe
Stuart Fratkin and Dean Cameron as Abe & Bo

"Two teenage aliens, Abe and Bo, travel the United States in a red sports car in an effort to pick up chicks and learn more about life on Earth. They are pursued by a pair of bumbling U.S. Government soldiers who would like to capture Abe and Bo for study."

It sounds like a fun time and crazy shenanigans to be had by all!

And to be perfectly honest, I just don't like it when something like this evades me. The fact that it's available on Hulu... just out of my reach is frustrating. I mean, I even tracked down What's Alan Watching? ferchrissakes and that fucker was a pilot that only ever aired once! (Corky Nemec + Cheryl Pollak = so much win it's crazy).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUwDTmGt8sk

Parker Lewis Can't Lose remains a firm favourite of mine and I'm SO glad to see Shout finally releasing it on DVD. A lesser know Parker Lewis-esque show was the ill fated Ferris Bueller. Ferris was played by Charlie Schlatter, Sloan by Ami Dolenz and Jeannie Bueller was pre-nose job Jennifer Aniston. I adore Ami Dolenz and she was a very different Sloan, but a cute one nonetheless. There's a LOT of hate for this show, but I thought it was watchable. It's pale against the movie, but what did you expect? Schlatter also dated Aniston while making the show. Aaaand that's just creepy, dude.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vy2kAfHHids

And I know everyone remembers the Weird Science TV Series (I have Season One on DVD), but few remember Bill & Ted's sitcom outing. Bill was played by Evan Richards who was the Corey Haim replacement in one of my favourite movies of all time - Corey Feldman's Rock & Roll High School Forever. And to top it off, Missy was played by Lisa Wilcox! Yes, Nightmare on Elm Street's Alice... WIN!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFP676Iyjpk

So as you can see, my bad sitcom collection just won't be complete without They Came From Outer Space. C'mon Hulu. Cut a slightly demented Aussie gal some slack!
